FAQs

(Frequently Asked Questions)

       What is a Virtual 5k?

o   A Virtual 5k is a race that you choose to complete wherever you like. You can walk, run, use a wheelchair, push a stroller, or use a treadmill, to name a few ways! The beauty of a Virtual 5k is that you can complete the race when and where you choose.

Will I do this at Williamsburg Landing?

o   Good question! This year, due to COVID-19, we made the decision to change our race to a Virtual event out of respect for the residents who live at Williamsburg Landing. For 10 years, they have welcomed us onto their beautiful campus; but with the pandemic still around, we felt it most respectful not to bring 400+ people to their community. So, you choose your own location where to complete your run or walk!

Where should I do my 1 mile walk or 5k?

o   That is truly the beauty of this year’s event! You can choose your own location! Do it in your neighborhood, on a track at a local school, on the treadmill, or check out these options:

·   USATF Routes

·   MapMyRun Routes

·   Walk Jog Run Routes

·   Matoaka Trails

·   William and Mary Running Club Routes

·   James City County Parks and Trails

·   New Quarter Park

·   York County Parks

·   Waller Mill Park

·   York River State Park

·   Colonial National Historical Park

·      Is this still an Arc fundraiser?

o   YES – it is our biggest and most important event of the year!!!! This year, more than ever – WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Please go to our Arc website, thearcgw.org, and click on the “register” button. This will take you to Run Sign-Up where you can register. The cost for Arc clients will be $20 (a code will be sent separately). Other participants pay $25-$35 to participate!

       Who can participate?

o   EVERYONE – family, friends, colleagues, relatives on the West coast (or anywhere in the world), your neighbors! You can form a team, a Facebook group, challenge another group, use your imagination to encourage everyone to take part in this fun Arc event!

  Will I win a prize, get a medal, a T-shirt?

o   All Arc clients will receive a medal! Medals will also be awarded to our top finishers. When you register, you will be instructed how to come back to the sign-up page and record your time! We will track the times and announce the winners by October 6th. T-shirts will be available for the first 200 registrants – so don’t delay!

o   Please register now at thearcgw.org and then choose a date between September 1 and October 3 to complete your run or walk! It’s that simple -- register and pick a time that is best

for you!

How can I get in shape after being stuck at home for so long?

o   Our Arc fitness instructors have provided videos you can access on our website and Aaron Cheely, with Williamsburg Landing, is providing live training sessions via Zoom! Email bettefaye@thearcgw.org to get on our Zoom list!
